IMPLANTS

What is an implant?
A dental implant is a small metal post/screw that is placed into the bone on which a crown sits. It replaces gaps when broken, damaged, decayed, or dead teeth need to come out. Dental implants can replace, one tooth gaps or all the teeth. It is the closet form of restoration to a natural tooth.

Unlike dentures or bridges, an implant supported crown uses the bone to support itself. The same as a natural tooth’s root does. In essence, the implant is the root and the crown on top is the visible tooth.
As a result it maintains your bone and gum levels giving a natural appearance. It doesn’t rely on the surrounding teeth to stay in and doesn’t come in and out.

When can they be used?
•    To replace gaps of teeth that have come out
•    When bridges or dentures can’t be used
•    To replace poor fitting dentures

What’s involved?
Placing a dental implant/s involves two phases; placement of the implant and the restoring the implant.
Placing the implant involves numbing the area (same as when having a tooth out) followed by drilling the bone and placing the implant. The area then is left to heal and the bone to harden around the implant.
Depending on how phase one goes, the implant can be restored (crown placed on top of it) from 3-9 months after. This scanning the mouth and implant so a Lab made crown, matched perfectly to the surrounding teeth can be made.

Benefits:
•    Natural look and feel: Dental implants mimic the appearance and function of natural teeth.
•    Preservation of bone and gums: the implant stimulates the jawbone, and preventing typical bone loss after having a tooth out.
•    Duration and longevity: if properly maintained and looked after they will last a lifetime.
•    Improved function: as implants don’t come in and out, like a denture. Eating,  chewing and speaking is improved. Hence, diet is not restricted.
•    No impact on adjacent teeth: unlike a bridge, implants don’t require grinding down of the supporting teeth.

Risks:
Like any form of treatment, there are risks associated with dental implants:
•    Surgical risks: infection of the site, injury to the surrounding structures, nerves etc, swelling, bruising and pain
•    Implant failure: can depend on oral hygiene or bone quality.
•    Healing time: depending on bone quality, it can take up to 9 months for the implant to fully integrate into the bone.
•    Cost: depending on the number of implants, the cost can be more than bridges and dentures.
•    Not suitable for everyone: certain health conditions such as severe diabetes, smoking, cancer treatment, osteoporosis.

INVISALIGN
A straight smile can change everything; your confidence, your outlook, your life.

Invisalign is a clear aligner system which straightens the teeth discretely, with most cases being able to complete within 6 months (depending on complexity).

By taking a 5D digital scan of your teeth, an outcome simulation of what your teeth could potentially look like after treatment can be generated. Giving you a preview of your new smile before starting Invisalign.
